Norway Condemns Israeli Blockade on Gaza Aid Amid Renewed Strikes

4 hours ago 12

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Norway's Deputy Foreign Minister, Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, condemned Israel's action of blocking the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

"We are very clear about what is happening in Gaza," he said, while speaking to the media in jakarta on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, as quoted by Antara. He maintained that Israel's aid blockade was "unacceptable and illegal."

Kravik reiterated his condemnation while representing Norway at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) last week for the hearing on the access to humanitarian aid in the Palestinian territories.

Furthermore, he also stressed that Norway has initiated a process at the UN General Assembly by submitting a resolution requesting the court to clarify Israel's obligation to ensure that humanitarian aid can enter Gaza and the West Bank.

"I had the opportunity to deliver Norway's statement. We are fully convinced that Israel has an obligation to facilitate aid and support the UN, humanitarian organizations, and countries like Norway, Indonesia, and others in providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people," he said.

The Norwegian minister also called to respect the ceasefire deal and resume talks on the rebuilding of Gaza. He ensured that Norway will take part and contribute to such efforts.

Since March 2, Israel has closed the entry points to Gaza for food supplies, medicines, fuel, and other essential needs, causing what humanitarian groups described as a rapid and dangerous deterioration of the already dire conditions for the 2.4 million inhabitants.

On March 18, Israel resumed its military operations in the enclave. More than 52,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Gaza in brutal Israeli onslaughts since October 2023.

In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its war in the enclave.
