TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Political observer from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Adi Prayitno, believes that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka cannot maneuver much if he joins the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party.
"Gibran's position is not significant, he cannot maneuver much because Prabowo is the president. His aura (Gibran) is overshadowed by Prabowo," said Adi in Jakarta on Friday, December 6, 2024.
On the contrary, he believes it would be very beneficial for Gibran to join the Golkar Party because he could accelerate further compared to joining the Gerindra Party.
"In Golkar, he can still relatively accelerate because Golkar does not have a president or vice president. With Gibran becoming an honorary member of Golkar, it means that Golkar currently has a vice president," he said.
Adi added that it would be a good move if the former President Joko Widodo joins the Golkar Party because it could serve as a shelter if he went under attack from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
"For Jokowi, at least there is a backup in case they are continuously attacked by the PDI-P. In the future, the tension between PDI-P and Golkar may escalate, they are two parties that have long been archenemies," he said.
He believes that the presence of Jokowi and Gibran in the Golkar Party could create dynamic political relationships with the Gerindra Party. "Because regardless of anything, Jokowi and Gibran certainly do not want to be seen as subordinate under the shadow of Gerindra," he said.
Adi added that Jokowi and Gibran themselves have been rumored to have become honorary members of the Golkar Party, confirming longstanding gossip that they will join the party with the banyan tree symbol. He believes that Jokowi and Gibran's political positions are strengthened through this membership.
