TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian national team coach Patrick Kluivert highlighted the massive support for the Garuda squad from the public. This, he said, cannot be separated from the role of South Korean tactician Shin Tae-yong (STY) who previously coached the Red and White team.
"I also have to give praise to the previous coach, Shin Tae-yong, who has done a great job. Now it is in my hands to achieve that success even further. So for me the most important thing is to play well, win matches, and I can't do much about whether people like me or not," he said at the Mulia Hotel, Senayan, Sunday, January 12, 2025.
He said that to win the hearts of the supporters, the most important thing is to play well and win matches. Kluivert did not deny the massive support for the Indonesian national team since he arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
"I play in many countries and I see many enthusiastic fans, but Indonesian fans are an added spice, and that's good," he said.
The Dutch coach said that the Indonesian national team players also felt the atmosphere of the enthusiasm of Indonesian supporters who wanted to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Therefore, he emphasized that the support of the fans was very important, and the national team would take care of the rest to qualify for the World Cup.
"I'll start tonight. I've planned to have dinner with five local players to get to know them better. So this is just the beginning and for sure next month I plan to return to Indonesia and see more grassroots players in Indonesia," he said.
The La Grande Indonesia football supporter group emphasized to the Dutch coach that his task was very difficult so he couldn't play around and do things half-heartedly in carrying out his duties. "So don't play around in carrying out your duties, let alone rungkad," said La Grande Indonesia via the official account X @LaGrandeIndo, Wednesday night, January 8, 2024.
The supporters said that Patrick Kluivert had taken the baton from STY, a task that the South Korean coach had carried out more than half the way. Therefore, according to La Grande, there is no longer a process other than completing the task of guiding the Indonesian national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
