TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A landslide in Kasimpar Village, Petungkriyono District, Pekalongan, resulted in 16 deaths, with 10 people wounded and 3 still missing. The disaster struck at around 5:30 pm on Monday, January 20, 2025.
“Sixteen people were found dead after being buried by the landslide,” said the Head of the Center for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Abdul Muhari, in a written statement.
The injured victims have all been referred to the nearest medical facilities and hospitals near the location. Meanwhile, the search for missing victims is still ongoing until this afternoon, Tuesday, January 21.
According to Abdul, the landslide had buried two houses and dragged several vehicles that were passing by in the area. The disaster also damaged two bridges.
Flash floods after heavy rain exacerbated the landslide. BNPB is still assessing the damages caused by the flash floods.
Abdul also reported that based on weather forecasts from BMKG, the Pekalongan Regency is at risk of light to moderate rainfall for the next three days until January 23, 2025. Thus, BNPB urged residents to remain vigilant and be prepared to self-evacuate if necessary.
“For residents who live near slopes and cliffs, periodically monitor the condition of the soil around the house,” Abdul warned.
