PGRI on Performance Reporting System Update: a Breath of Fresh Air for Teachers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) welcomes the new changes to the teacher performance reporting system recently announced by the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti.

"This is certainly a breath of fresh air for teachers," said the Secretary General of the PGRI Executive Board when contacted by Tempo on Wednesday night, December 11, 2024. According to Dudung, previously teachers had to spend significant time and money to report their performance through the Merdeka Mengajar Platform and eKinerja.

In this new system, reporting is only conducted once a year and will be done by the school principal. Additionally, several components of performance assessment have been altered. In the old system, teachers were required to report fulfilling a minimum of 24 hours of teaching per week. However, in the new system, guiding students and attending training can also be counted as working hours.

Nevertheless, according to Dudung, the challenge ahead is how school principals can carry out the responsibility for reporting teacher performance. "Principals must be trained and guided to be integral and highly aware of building a quality-oriented school culture," he said.

Therefore, Dudung stated that school supervisors must be able to assist and verify the reporting conducted by principals. Not only that, Dudung also mentioned that the Education Office must perform its supervisory function well to ensure this new system is successfully implemented.

Previously, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti stated that the update to the reporting and performance management system is a directive from President Prabowo Subianto to simplify the teachers' bureaucracy. Although simplified, it still holds significant meaning for public service.

"This is also our response to feedback from teachers, supervisors, and principals. They felt that performance management was cumbersome and sometimes chaotic," said Mu'ti during the release of the performance reporting system in Jakarta monitored from the Kemendikdasmen YouTube channel, Monday, December 9, 2024.
