TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said that the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and the Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, Megawati Soekarnoputri, is still possible. However, he cannot give any certainty as to when the meeting will take place.
"Of course [there will be a meeting between Prabowo and Mega], it's being planned, [but we're] still not sure about the timing," Prasetyo said after a cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
The plan for a meeting between Prabowo and Megawati surfaced before Prabowo's inauguration as president on October 20, 2024. Rumors said they would meet on Thursday evening, October 17, 2024, coinciding with Prabowo's 73rd birthday. But it did not happen.
"It seems that it didn't happen. The meeting was still postponed until the inauguration ceremony," Gerindra Party Secretary General Ahmad Muzani said at the parliament complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
At the time, Muzani mentioned that Megawati was resting after a long trip. Indonesia's 5th president, had just returned from a visit to the Imam Bukhori Mausoleum in Uzbekistan and the Blue Mosque in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The PDIP is one of the parties that has not officially decided to support Prabowo's government. Although several cadres such as PDIP chairman Puan Maharani and treasurer Olly Dondokambey have stated that the party is not against Prabowo.
PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said the decision to join or not to join Prabowo's government was up to Megawati. "Whether to be inside or outside is in the hands of Ibu Megawati," Hasto said after his Ph.D. graduation ceremony at the University of Indonesia in Depok, West Java, on October 18, 2024.
