TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto broke fast with United Arab Emirates leaders during this Ramadan. Prabowo along with the seven emirs, the term for the head of government in an emirate, broke their fast together in a bilateral meeting between Indonesia and the UAE at Qasr Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
The UAE, one of the Gulf countries neighboring Saudi Arabia, has seven emirates. According to the President's Media Team, all seven emirs were present at the meeting with Prabowo in the capital of the UAE.
Among these emirs is Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ), the Emir of Abu Dhabi who also serves as the President of the UAE. "Alhamdulillah, in the blessed month of Ramadan, I had the opportunity to break fast with the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan," Prabowo said via Instagram social media.
In addition to MBZ, among the emirs present was Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Emir of Dubai who serves as the Prime Minister of the UAE. Alongside them, the leaders of the other emirates, namely the Emir of Sharjah, the Emir of Ajman, the Emir of Umm Al Quwain, the Emir of Ras Al Khaimah, and the Emir of Fujairah, also attended the iftar event.
"This fellowship is a momentum to strengthen friendship and enhance the strategic cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE for the welfare of the two nations," Prabowo said.
After breaking fast, Prabowo also performed the Maghrib prayer in congregation with the entourage. In this meeting, the head of state was accompanied by several cabinet officials, including the Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.
The dialogue then continued in an expanded meeting. As a conclusion, President Prabowo and President MBZ held a tete-a-tete meeting. This moment also signified both countries' intention to strengthen the diplomatic relations established 50 years ago in 1976.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy mentioned that this forum also discussed investment cooperation between the two countries. "The meeting discussed increased investment cooperation. Bilaterals are improved. The UAE wants to increase its investment in Indonesia," said Teddy.
