TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo now aims for food self-sufficiency by 2027 instead of 2028, confirmed the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan.
"The target has been moved forward,” the minister, who is known nationwide as Zulhas, said after a coordination meeting in Jakarta on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
Zulhas said Prabowo announced the decision during the G20 Summit in Brazil, affirming that he intended to address food shortages in Indonesia in 3 years and energy self-sufficiency in 4 years.
"So, we only have two years left. Two years of necessary hard work,” he said.
Thus, the National Mandate Party politician said food-related ministries and state agencies must work swiftly to achieve Prabowo’s goal of food self-sufficiency.
Meanwhile, at the coordination meeting, Zulhas and other ministerial-level officials discussed several provisions in the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) currently being prepared by the government. One of the discussed substances is to restore the public service nature of Bulog, instead of pure commercial use.
"Bulog can’t remain commercialized,” he said, adding that minister-level officials have agreed on changes to the Bulog institutional structure. However, more detailed discussions will be held in the following week.
Several minister-level officials were present at the meeting. Among them were Trade Minister Budi Santoso, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Acting Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture Ali Jamil, Bulog Director Wahyu Suparyono, Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Arief Prasetyo Adi, and Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency Sahat Panggabean.
