TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto returned to Indonesia after meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister (PM) Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday, January 9, 2025. Prabowo previously met with Anwar Ibrahim at Rumah Tangsi, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In an official statement from the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, the two leaders discussed a number of strategic steps in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Inside Rumah Tangsi, Prabowo was presented with a number of artworks from Malaysian artists depicting Malaysia's cultural and historical relations. The artworks were incorporated into a mini-exhibition themed "Merentasi Samudera: True Bonds, Heritage."
Afterward, Prabowo and Anwar went straight to the dining area to enjoy lunch together, accompanied by gamelan music. The two leaders also exchanged ideas on various strategic issues and future cooperation between the two countries.
After the meeting, from Rumah Tangsi, Prabowo and Anwar traveled together in one car to Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Then, Prabowo returned to Indonesia.
Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Yusuf Permana, in a written statement, said the meeting marked a strategic step to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, which have close ties in various fields.
The meeting is considered an important symbol of friendship between Indonesia and Malaysia. In addition, it strengthens the two countries' efforts to continue strengthening bilateral relations in various sectors.
President Prabowo Subianto previously arrived at Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at around 10am local time. Prabowo's arrival was for a personal visit.
Previously, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that his meeting with Prabowo was canceled because Prabowo had a fever in December. He also prayed for President Prabowo Subianto to be given a recovery due to a fever for several days.
Through his official X account, Anwar Ibrahim said he and his family were already on Langkawai Island, Malaysia, to receive Prabowo's visit. However, the meeting was postponed because Prabowo was sick.
"Last night, he asked to postpone the meeting for a few days due to fever. Praying for President Prabowo to be given a recovery as soon as possible while continuing the planned meeting of the two countries," Anwar Ibrahim said on his X account @anwaribrahim, Monday, December 23, 2024.
However, Prabowo canceled his visit to Malaysia after his visit to Egypt. He went straight to Jakarta and held a limited meeting at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base to discuss Christmas and New Year preparations and disaster anticipation. Before leaving for the D-8 Summit in Cairo, Egypt, Prabowo had said he would meet with Anwar Ibrahim after the summit.

Teddy said President Prabowo held a limited meeting with a number of ministers after landing at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta, on December 23, 2024. During the meeting, Prabowo discussed security preparations ahead of Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 (Nataru).
