Prabowo Inspects Flood-Affected Residents in Bekasi

1 week ago 28

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited the flood-affected residents in Babelan, Bekasi Regency, West Java on Saturday, March 8, 2025. Quoted from the official statement of the Presidential Secretariat's Bureau of Press, Media, and Information, Prabowo arrived at the location at around 5:57 PM WIB, last Saturday. The head of state then inspected the conditions of the residents who were still holding out in their homes.

Prabowo walked through the neighborhoods still inundated with water. He also took the time to converse with the flood-affected residents, inquiring about their conditions and urgent needs.

In addition to directly inspecting the residential conditions, Prabowo also handed out food aid for the residents to break their fast. This aid is expected to alleviate the burden of the flood-affected communities, especially in the middle of Ramadan.

During the occasion, Prabowo also broke the fast with the residents in one of the houses he visited.

The Bekasi City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) previously recorded a total of 20 flooded areas in Bekasi City on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

The local police stated that the worst affected area by the flood is Babelan, Bekasi Regency, West Java. The Head of the National Police's Water and Air Corps Baharkam, Inspector General Yassin Kosasih stated that the Babelan area is one of the main focuses in the post-flood rescue operation. "There appears to be a shortage of personnel there, while many houses are still submerged," Yassin said through his official statement, quoted on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

The government has distributed ready-to-use aid amounting to Rp1.4 billion for the flood-affected residents in Bekasi. The aid includes basic food packages, instant meals, bottled water, eggs, cooking oil, hygiene kits, blankets, mats, folding beds, tarpaulins, rubber boats, and polyethylene boats.
