TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Special Staff of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Doni Ismanto Darwin said that the dismantling of the sea fence by the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) was carried out without coordination with KKP. He regretted this because it had the potential to obscure the ongoing legal process.

"As emphasized by Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, the status of the sea fence in Tangerang has been sealed by KKP as evidence in the investigation process to reveal the party responsible for its construction," said Doni when contacted on Sunday, January 19, 2025.

However, Doni said that KKP respects the active role of the TNI AL in protecting Indonesia's marine resources. He also ensured that the investigation process would continue until the figure behind the mysterious sea fence builder was revealed even though the fences were now being dismantled little by little.

"The investigation process related to this case is ongoing, including the summons of parties suspected of being involved. KKP is working with law enforcement officers to ensure accountability and transparency in resolving this case," said Doni.

In the future, Doni hopes that the Indonesian Navy and all other stakeholders can communicate and work together better to maintain Indonesia's maritime sovereignty. "To ensure the sustainability of our marine resources."

Previously, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries sealed the sea fence in the waters of Tangerang Regency on Thursday, January 9, 2025. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries gave the builders and owners of the fence 20 days to dismantle the buildings they had built themselves, while identifying the person responsible for this case.

However, in the midst of the identification process, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, the Indonesian Navy deployed 300 personnel and residents to dismantle the sea fence, and will continue until completion.

Head of the Indonesian Navy Information Service, First Admiral I Made Wira Hady, said that the dismantling of the 30.16-kilometer illegal sea fence was carried out on the orders of President Prabowo Subianto. "This task is a direct instruction from President Prabowo through TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto to us," he said when contacted, Saturday, January 18, 2025.
