TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has invited several Islamic community organizations to break the fast together. The iftar event will be held at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar revealed the plan. "The President is inviting religious figures and clerics to break the fast," Nasaruddin said at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

In addition to Islamic organization leaders, Nasaruddin said, Prabowo also invited Islamic figures from other backgrounds. He also invited clerics and leaders of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) to the Presidential Palace.

However, Nasaruddin did not reveal which Islamic organizations were invited to break the fast with President Prabowo. He said the number of invitations distributed was based on the capacity of the Presidential Palace.

Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Ahmad Muzani, a politician from Prabowo's Gerindra Party, said the President might invite community organization leaders to discuss Indonesia's position on the Peace Council during the upcoming iftar (breaking of the fast). One of the topics, he said, is Indonesia's position on the Board of Peace.

Muzani claimed that, in principle, Prabowo is open to the thoughts and views of all community leaders. "So tomorrow is also part of that effort. The president wants to hear views, although the president will also convey his views on this issue (the Board of Peace)," Muzani said on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

Prabowo had previously invited several Islamic community organizations to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. The meeting discussed Indonesia's decision to join the Board of Peace and its impact on the Palestinian struggle.

Several leaders of Islamic organizations attended the meeting, including the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board, the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board, and the Indonesian Ulema Council.

At the time, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the President explained the reasons and considerations for joining the Board of Peace to community organization leaders. He stated that the forum would provide a platform for conveying policy points so they could be understood and accepted by various groups.

"I believe this afternoon's meeting also provides an opportunity for the President to convey these points, hoping they can be understood by all parties," Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace on February 3, 2026.
