TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto departed for the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN) in North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, on Monday, January 12, 2026. The President’s arrival was broadcast live via the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
Prabowo and his entourage arrived at the site at approximately 17:47 Central Indonesian Time (WITA). Dressed in his signature brown safari suit and a hat, the President was accompanied by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Upon landing, the Head of State was greeted by the Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono.
This journey marks Prabowo’s first official visit to the new capital since assuming the presidency. His last appearance at IKN was on September 13, 2024, when he had already been declared President-elect but was still serving as the Minister of Defense under the administration of his predecessor, Joko Widodo.
During that previous visit, Prabowo and the Indonesia Maju Cabinet attended a Plenary Cabinet Meeting led by Jokowi at the Garuda Palace. That session served as the final plenary cabinet meeting of the Jokowi era.
Prior to the arrival, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi had announced that President Prabowo’s stop at IKN was part of a broader working tour across several provinces in Kalimantan.
The stop at IKN serves as the final agenda item for President Prabowo’s Kalimantan circuit. Earlier in the day, the President inaugurated 166 community schools at Integrated Community School (SRT) 9 in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. Following that event, he traveled to Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Monday afternoon to inaugurate a Pertamina refinery.
"Please pray for our success; after Balikpapan, we will be visiting IKN," Prasetyo Hadi told reporters during the morning activities in Banjarbaru, as reported by Antara.
