TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto crossed paths with veteran American actor Steven Seagal during an unexpected encounter in Jakarta on Monday, January 13, 2025. The chance meeting was confirmed by Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Angga Raka Prabowo.
According to Angga, the encounter occurred following a lunch meeting. “After leaving the elevator, we happened to see Steven Seagal in the elevator next door. We greeted each other upon exiting, and I just found out that it turned out they have known each other for 35 years,” Angga explained, as quoted by Antara on Monday night, January 13, 2025.
He suggested that the two may have established their friendship during Prabowo's time in Indonesia's Special Forces Command (Kopassus). “It's possible they met when Pak Prabowo was in Kopassus, as I believe Steven also has a background in self-defense training,” he said.
News of the encounter surfaced through an Instagram post on the account @2.prabowo, which has since garnered over 3,000 likes. The video captured the meeting, showcasing Steven Seagal in his signature black attire and President Prabowo in a brown safari shirt with black pants. Deputy Minister Angga was also present, accompanying the President.
The video showed that the interaction between Prabowo and Seagal appeared warm and natural, suggesting a long-standing friendship. This chance meeting follows Seagal's visit to Bali, confirmed by a post on politician Titiek Soeharto's Instagram account (@titieksoeharto) last week. The caption revealed that Titiek Soeharto met Seagal in Bali on January 4, 2025, expressing her delight at reuniting with an old friend after two decades.
“I'm so happy to meet Steven Seagel again, an old friend who I haven't seen for more than 20 years,” said the former wife of President Prabowo Subianto and mother of designer Didit Prabowo.
