TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited the United Arab Emirates in the middle of this week. In the capital city Abu Dhabi, Prabowo met with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) in a bilateral forum.
The meeting between the two leaders took place at Qasr Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi on Thursday, February 26, 2026. "Upon arriving at Qasr Al Bahr, President Prabowo was directly welcomed by President MBZ," as stated in the Presidential Secretariat's release on Friday, February 27, 2026.
According to the Presidential Secretariat, the bilateral meeting was attended by all the UAE emirates leaders. This Gulf country has seven emirates, each led by an emir.
All seven emirs attended the meeting with Prabowo, including MBZ, the Emir of Abu Dhabi who also serves as the President of the UAE, and Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Emir of Dubai who also serves as the Prime Minister of the UAE. In addition to them, the Emirs of Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah were also present.
During this meeting in the month of Ramadan, the bilateral forum began with open discussions while waiting for iftar and maghrib prayer time. The dialogue then continued in an expanded meeting to address several strategic agendas, ranging from strengthening energy cooperation and investment to establishing future economic partnerships, as mentioned by the Presidential Secretariat.
As a conclusion, President Prabowo and President MBZ held a one-on-one meeting. This moment also signaled both countries' intention to strengthen diplomatic relations established 50 years ago in 1976.
President Prabowo was accompanied by several officials in this bilateral meeting. Among those present were Foreign Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Indonesian Ambassador to the UAE Judha Nugraha, and the President Director of PT. Pindad (Persero) Sigit P. Santosa.
Meanwhile, President MBZ was accompanied by Deputy Chair of the Presidential Court Hamdan bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, Advisor to the Presidential Court Mohamed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, Strategic Affairs Advisor Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suhail Al Mazrouei, and the UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Obaid Salem Al Dhaheri.
