TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto has revoked the forest exploitation permits of 28 companies found to have violated regulations in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, areas affected by the severe floods and landslides in late 2025.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the decision was reached during a closed meeting with the Forest Zone Order Task Force, held via video conference from London on Monday, January 19, 2026.
“Following the flash floods and landslides that struck these three provinces at the end of November 2025, the government expedited audits of forest area business permits in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra,” Prasetyo explained.
The Task Force presented its findings on companies suspected of violations to President Prabowo, who subsequently decided to revoke the permits of 28 companies proven guilty.
These include 22 natural forest and plantation business permits covering more than 1 million hectares (1,010,592 hectares), as well as six permits in mining, plantation, and wood forest product utilization.
Prasetyo emphasized that the move reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that natural resource-based businesses comply with Indonesian laws and regulations.
“All measures are being taken in the interest of the welfare and prosperity of all Indonesian people,” he said.
The press conference at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta was attended by key officials, including Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), General Tandyo Budi Revita.
Also present were Deputy Environment Minister Diaz Hendropriyono, Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid, TNI General Staff Lieutenant General Richard Tampubolon, Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Febrie Adriansyah, and Head of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) Muhammad Yusuf Ateh.
The revocation of these permits is part of Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to enforce environmental regulations and address issues related to forest exploitation.
