TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed his concern about the situation in the occupied West Bank, Palestine, fearing that it could affect the peace efforts ongoing in the Gaza Strip.
Prabowo conveyed this during his meeting with King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein of Jordan at the Basman Palace in Amman, Jordan.
The head of state said the dynamics in the region could potentially disrupt efforts to create stability in Palestine. "We are deeply concerned about the problems in the West Bank. We feel that this could affect the success of whatever we try to do in Gaza," Prabowo said in Jordan on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
According to the former Defense Minister, the resolution of conflict in Palestine is inseparable from the surrounding countries in the region. Therefore, Prabowo is pushing for stronger cooperation with Jordan, as it directly borders the West Bank.
Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia will strengthen and enhance cooperation with Jordan. "I think my team will work closely with your team, so we always monitor the situation, we know exactly what will happen," he said.
Several Israeli non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have voiced concerns about the recently signed settlement expansion plan. According to them, this step will mark the first expansion of the border from East Jerusalem to the West Bank, which has been occupied since 1967.
Israel has occupied East Jerusalem since 1967 and claimed it as its own, despite widespread international condemnation.
Palestine has designated East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state government.
As reported by CNA, the proposal was issued in early February but was reported by Israeli media on Monday, February 17. This decision comes amidst global condemnation of Israel's gradual efforts to seize control of the West Bank.
Critics have called this unilateral move a form of de facto annexation of Palestinian territory by Israel.
