TEMPO.CO, JakartaCabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained the reason why President Prabowo Subianto canceled his meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday, December 22, 2024.

“There was an important matter in Jakarta so I had to return immediately,” said Teddy in a written statement on Monday, December 23, 2024.

Teddy stated that Prabowo held a limited meeting with several ministers after landing at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on December 23, 2024. In the meeting, Prabowo discussed security preparations for Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 (Nataru).

Previously, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that his meeting with Prabowo was canceled because Prabowo had a fever. He also expressed his hope that Prabowo would recover, noting that he had been experiencing a fever for several days.

Through his official X account, Anwar Ibrahim mentioned that he and his family were already on Langkawi Island, Malaysia, awaiting Prabowo's visit. However, the meeting was postponed due to Prabowo's illness.

“Last night he asked to postpone the meeting for a few days because of a fever. Praying that President Prabowo would recover as soon as possible and continue the plan for a meeting between the two countries,” said Anwar Ibrahim on his X account @anwaribrahim, on Monday, December 23, 2024.

Prabowo canceled his trip to Malaysia after his visit to Egypt. He went directly to Indonesia and held a limited meeting at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base to discuss preparations for Christmas and New Year, as well as disaster anticipation. Before departing for the D-8 Summit in Cairo, Egypt, Prabowo had indicated he would meet with Anwar Ibrahim after the summit.

In a press statement from the Presidential Palace, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi were present to greet Prabowo upon his arrival, appearing to welcome the President.

In addition, the Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Muhammad Herindra also welcomed President Prabowo and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

During the meeting, Prabowo emphasized that heightened community activity necessitates security measures to ensure public order and safety.

Furthermore, Prabowo also stressed the importance of disaster mitigation. He emphasized the need for coordination between various parties and the dissemination of information to the public regarding the latest weather developments.
