TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and First Lady Emine Erdogan landed in Jakarta on Tuesday evening, February 11, 2025, for a state visit following his stop in Malaysia.
President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the entourage at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta amid pouring rain.
Erdogan’s aircraft, an Airbus A318-112 ACJ Elite with registration number TC-ANK, landed on Halim’s runway at about 6:35 p.m. local time.
Accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Prabowo walked alongside Erdogan and his wife towards a car.
Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media at the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana, said Erdogan's state visit is an important step in bolstering bilateral relations between Indonesia and Turkey.
Following the welcoming ceremony, the agenda will continue with a bilateral meeting, discussing various aspects of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
Yusuf mentioned that as part of the agenda, the state visit will conclude with a luncheon hosted at the courtyard of the Bogor Presidential Palace.
"Hopefully, the state visit will further enhance the friendship and cooperation between Indonesia and Turkey and positively impact the progress of both countries," he said.
Spokesperson of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Roy Soemirat, stated the visit has two main agendas, namely bilateral meetings and the inaugural implementation of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) between Indonesia and Turkey.
HLSCC is the highest-level bilateral cooperation mechanism directly led by the heads of state. Roy stated that this forum will be a strategic platform to discuss various matters of common interest between both countries.
“The HLSCC is the highest regular bilateral forum between the two countries and is led directly by the heads of state,” Roy told the media crew on Friday, February 7.
HLSCC was first declared at the G20 Summit in Bali in 2022 as the highest bilateral forum between Indonesia and Turkey. In addition to Indonesia, Turkey also has a similar cooperation forum with 21 other countries.
