Prabowo Will Inaugurate 3 Sections of IKN Toll Road, Set for Completion by December 2024

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Construction of three toll road sections in the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, is said to be completed by December 2024. Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo said he has proposed the plan for President Prabowo Subianto's inauguration of the toll road.

"It has been proposed to Mr. President. It depends on when he wants to inaugurate," said Dody when asked by journalists after a meeting with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliament Building in Senayan, Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

The three sections of the toll road are Tol Section 3A Karang Joang-KKT Kariangu, which is 13.4 kilometers long; Tol Section 3B KKT Kariangau-Simpang Tempadung, which is 7.3 kilometers long; and Tol Section 5A Simpang Tempadung-Jembatan Pulau Balang, which is 6.7 kilometers long.

The Minister of Public Works and People's Housing (PUPR) 2019-2024 Basuki Hadimuljono announced earlier that the construction of the three toll road sections will be completed by the end of this year. He claimed that the toll access roads would save travel time from Balikpapan to the Core Government Center Area (KIPP) of IKN. The journey that originally took two hours is estimated to be completed in 45 minutes.

The Ministry of Public Works is building the three toll sections and Tol IKN Sections 6B and 6C. Basuki, who at that time also served as Acting Head of the IKN Authority, targeted completing the toll road construction in the new capital city by June 2025.

Tol IKN Section 6B is being built along 5.7 kilometers, while the access to Tol Section 6C is being built along 5.6 kilometers. The construction of Tol Section 6B includes a 370-meter-long bridge, an 82-meter-long overpass at two locations, slab-on-pile at two locations, and box culverts at 24 locations.

Regarding management, Basuki said that Tol IKN's management will be determined through a bidding mechanism. In fact, the minister who works under the leadership of the 7th President of Indonesia, Jokowi, even targeted that the tender could be carried out this year.

"Because once it's completed, it can already be operated," said Basuki at the PUPR Ministry on Friday, October 4, 2024. It will be auctioned. It can be Jasa Marga, Hutama Karya, Waskita Karya. Private sectors can also participate."
