TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto led the first cabinet meeting at the Presidential Office on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. Prabowo instructed the 48 ministers and 12 ministerial-level officials present at the Red and White Cabinet plenary meeting to gear up their respective work programs.
"Study all (your) respective projects; don’t let them become a lighthouse project. Everything must refer to what I conveyed during the People's Consultative Assembly meeting on the day of my inauguration,” he said. “Food self-sufficiency is a priority considering the global situation. Energy self-sufficiency is absolute.”
Two days after his inauguration, Prabowo said he had summoned several ministers, Attorney General S.T. Burhanuddin, and the Head of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency, Muhammad Yusuf Ateh.
The former Minister of Defense maintained that he had also directed the Head of National Development Planning, Rachmat Pambudy, to ensure that all ministerial programs and activities in all ministries have a significant, measurable, and synergistic contribution.
In his inaugural speech, Prabowo declared Indonesia's commitment to achieving food and energy self-sufficiency as the primary steps to address the increasingly complex global challenges.
Prabowo conveyed that Indonesia must be able to produce and meet the national food demands independently, as other countries would prioritize their domestic interests.
In addition to food resilience, President Prabowo also emphasized the importance of achieving energy self-sufficiency. He said dependence on foreign energy resources poses a serious threat amidst global geopolitical tensions.
