TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Housing Task Force, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, revealed that Qatar and Abu Dhabi have pledged their support for Indonesia's plan to build 7 million housing units for its citizens.
“I personally heard from President Prabowo Subianto that the Qatari Government is willing to finance the construction of 5 million housing units. A philanthropist from Qatar is also committed to personally contribute towards the construction of 1 million housing units,” Hashim said in Jakarta on Thursday, December 26, 2024, as quoted by Antara.
Hashim confirmed that Abu Dhabi has expressed its intention to support this program during Prabowo’s recent visit to the country. “I also visited Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Government said they are committed to contributing 1 million housing units. Therefore, these two nations have pledged to finance the construction of 7 million housing units.”
Hashim warmly welcomed the collaborative efforts between the central government and the Jakarta Provincial Government in their joint mission to provide decent housing for all citizens. He expressed confidence that this strong partnership will enable the successful realization of President Prabowo's goal of constructing 15 million housing units within the first five years of his presidency.
These sentiments were conveyed by Hashim during a meeting with Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait at the low-cost flat or Rusun Rawa Buaya in Jakarta yesterday.
At the event, Minister Sirait, known as Ara, distributed basic food assistance to numerous residents of the flats. These flats serve as relocation sites for individuals displaced from areas such as under-bridges, under-toll roads, and other locations within Jakarta. He also engaged in a dialogue with several residents to gain firsthand insights into their current living conditions within the flats.
Ara conveyed a message from President Prabowo Subianto, emphasizing the importance of maintaining harmony and peaceful coexistence within the diverse community residing in the flats. “Here, we come from various backgrounds, but we are all united as Indonesians. So, I convey a message from our President: let us all live in harmony.”
