TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar has announced that the cost of the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage will be more affordable. However, he emphasized that the actual decrease in costs will be influenced by external factors such as inflation and fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate.

“So what’s clear is we want to make the Hajj cost more affordable to the public through efficiency and eliminating any unnecessary expenses,” Nasaruddin stated at the Presidential Palace on Friday, December 27, 2024.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Muhammad Syafi'i acknowledged that the specific amount of the cost reduction cannot be determined at this time, as it requires approval from the House of Representatives (DPR) Working Committee. The DPR, he added, will convene a meeting in the middle of their recess, likely on December 30, 2024, to establish the Working Committee.

Previously, Nasaruddin had stated that the Ministry of Religious Affairs had finalized the 2025 Hajj pilgrim quota and the Cost of Organizing the Hajj Pilgrimage (BPIH). However, he refrained from disclosing the exact cost figures, emphasizing the need for approval from the DPR.

“We will jointly determine the final figures with the DPR this week. We cannot announce the costs before the formation of the Working Committee,” he stated following a luncheon at the Saudi Arabian Ambassador's Residence in Jakarta on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, as quoted by Antara.

Nasaruddin assured that the Ministry of Religious Affairs has taken the best measures to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage. These preparations were discussed during a meeting with Saudi Arabian Minister of Hajj and Umrah Tawfiq F Al Rabiah last month.

The 2025 Hajj pilgrimage is scheduled to commence on May 2, 2025, according to the Ministry of Religious Affairs' plan.

In 2024, the BPIH reached Rp93.4 million per pilgrim. Consequently, the actual cost borne by each pilgrim after deducting the government subsidy from the Hajj Fund benefits managed by the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) was Rp56 million per person.
