Revenue Pressure in a Transition Year

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Leniati had let the New Year’s Eve pass twice without celebration, with no time for a holiday. December and January instead became the busiest period for staff in the tax division of a palm oil corporation headquartered in Kuningan, South Jakarta. “There was a lot to do, especially preparing tax reports,” said the 29-year-old woman, who went by Leni, on Monday, January 5, 2026.

The workload intensified because Leni and her colleagues had to adapt to a new tax administration system, Coretax. The core tax administration system was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on December 31, 2024. Since then, corporate tax managers were forced to relearn procedures, workflows, and administrative habits that had long been settled.

The problem, according to Leni, was that Coretax was not fully ready. “The system was still unreliable. It often errors,” she said, exasperated. Many tax staff at other companies experienced similar issues: failed logins, difficulty accessing accounts, and frequent system downtime. These conditions prevented corporate taxpayers from entering the platform to submit their tax data. “My friends at other companies had the same problems,” she said.

Frequent access disruptions hampered administrative work, from registration and annual tax return filings to the issuance of tax documents. As a result, many obligations could not be completed on time.
