TEMPO.CO, Gorontalo - A charter plane owned by PT Sam Air with registration number PK-SMH (DHC6) crashed at Panua Airport, Pahuwato, Gorontalo Province, on Sunday, October 20, 2024. The accident resulted in four passengers losing their lives.
"This accident resulted in the death of four victims, namely the pilot, first officer, technician, and one passenger. The victims have been evacuated to Motoholu Pohuwanto Health Center," said Head of Public Relations of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Mokhammad Khusnu, in his official statement.
The aircraft was piloted by Capt. M. Saefurubi A with First Officer M. Arthur V. G and a technician named Budijanto. Besides the crew, there was a passenger named Sri Meyke Male. All crew and passengers were pronounced dead.
Khusnu mentioned that the aircraft was serving a route from Djalaluddin Airport, Gorontalo, to Panua Airport, Pohuwato. "The chronology of events shows that the PK-SMH aircraft took off from Gorontalo Airport at 07:03 AM local time with an estimated arrival time at 07:33 AM local time," Khusnu said in his official statement.
During the flight, the aircraft lost communication at 07:22 AM local time. Several hours later, the aircraft was found in a completely destroyed condition due to the accident in the marshes before runway 27 of Pohuwato Airport.
Meanwhile, the Acting Director General of Civil Aviation, Lukman F. Laisa, expressed deep condolences for this incident. Lukman added that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation is coordinating with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) and related stakeholders for further investigation into this incident.
"I hope the investigation process runs smoothly, and preventive measures can be taken to enhance aviation safety in the future," Lukman said.
Currently, three crew members' bodies will be laid in the cargo warehouse of Djalaluddin Airport. They are planned to be flown to Jakarta tomorrow using Batik Air at 08:40 AM local time. Meanwhile, the passenger's body will be directly handed over to the family in Gorontalo City.
