TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Changi Airport has been named the world's best airport in 2025 at the World Airport Awards organized by the aviation consultant Skytrax. The award ceremony was held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Madrid, Spain, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
This is the thirteenth award in Singapore Changi Airport's history. The airport also received other top awards for Best Airport Restrooms, Best Airport Restaurants, and Best Airport in Asia.
Yam Kum Weng, Chief Executive Officer of Changi Airport Group, said Changi Airport is honored to be named the World's Best Airport by Skytrax for the 13th time. It is indeed gratifying to receive this recognition, and this certainly encourages us to continue to strive to provide the best travel experience," Yam Kum Weng said as quoted by skytraxratings.com.
Changi lost the title last year after being beaten by Qatar's Hamad International Airport. Hamad International Airport, which has been awarded the best airport title three times, dropped to second place. The airport also received awards for Best Airport Shopping and Best Airport in the Middle East.
Tokyo International Airport in Japan and Incheon International Airport in South Korea were the next highest ranked airports. In fifth place was Narita International Airport in Japan.
Involving 13 Million Airport Users
The ranking is based on a global survey conducted by Skytrax, collecting responses from more than 13 million airport users in over 100 countries between August 2024 and February 2025.
Travelers assess airports based on their experiences at various stages of travel, including check-in, arrival, transfer, shopping, security, immigration, and boarding.
Changi Airport, the home to the world's largest indoor waterfall, is equipped with automated check-in counters and biometric authentication to expedite immigration procedures.
Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, stated that the diversity and wide range of dining options were also acknowledged, with Changi Airport winning the award for Best Airport Restaurants. The airport's toilets were also a major driver of customer satisfaction during their time at the airport. "We congratulate Singapore Changi Airport on receiving the first ever World’s Best Airport Washrooms award,” he said.
Recently, the airport became one of the first in the world to offer passport-free immigration checks at all terminals. This allows travelers to pass through immigration in just 10 seconds.
