TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) has yet to unveil further details on the designation of several high-ranking officials of PT Pertamina (Persero) as suspects in an alleged corruption case involving the management of crude oil and refinery products by the Attorney General.
The spokesperson for the SOEs Ministry, Putri Violla, stated that they are still in communication with the state-owned oil and gas corporation regarding the case development. "So far, we are still communicating. If there is any new information later, we will definitely convey it," she said when met at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises on Tuesday, February 25.
When asked whether the Ministry of SOEs has coordinated with the Attorney General regarding this case, Putri mentioned that the communication is still limited to the internal parties of Pertamina. "So far, the communication that has been established is only between the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises and Pertamina. So once we have further information, we will convey it," she said.
Previously, the Attorney General has named four suspects in this case, who are officials on the board of directors of Pertamina's subsidiaries. They allegedly manipulated the domestic refinery oil production policy to decrease, thus requiring a large import. As a result, the state is estimated to have incurred losses of up to Rp193.7 trillion.
The suspects include the President Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Riva Siahaan; the Director of Feedstock and Product Optimization at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Sani Dinar Saifuddin; the President Director of PT Pertamina International Shipping Yoki Firnandi, and the VP Feedstock Management at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Agus Purwono.
Investigators found indications that the suspects intentionally manipulated the domestic refinery oil production policy to decrease, thus requiring a large import. However, according to the applicable rules, domestic crude oil supply must be prioritized before any import.
"However, the suspects conditioned the outcome of the downstream optimization meeting to reduce the refinery's readiness, which resulted in the rejection of domestic crude oil by the contractors, ultimately leading to imports," said Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Attorney General, Harli Siregar, on Monday, February 24, 2025.
In practice, domestic crude oil that still meets quality standards is rejected on the grounds of not meeting the specifications. Meanwhile, imported crude oil from abroad is brought in at a higher price through intermediaries or brokers agreed upon beforehand.
