TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A high-speed train accident in the province of Cordoba, Spain, killed 21 people and injured hundreds more, including 25 seriously, according to a report by RTVE on Sunday.
Previously, the death toll from the accident had reached 10.
RTVE reported that the incident occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. local time (Monday at 1:40 a.m. Western Indonesian Time) on Sunday when a high-speed train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed, blocking the adjacent track.
The train was carrying 317 passengers.
Then, another train from Madrid, traveling to Huelva on the opposite track, which was blocked by the first train that crashed, also derailed.
Emergency response teams are currently continuing their operations at the accident site. The number of victims is still being updated.
The major accident forced the suspension of high-speed train services between Madrid and Andalusia.
