TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The issue of a cabinet reshuffle is currently being widely discussed. The rumor surfaced following an article by political analyst Kevin O'Rourke published in the Reformasi Weekly Review on March 10, 2025. Kevin wrote that the reshuffle is likely to happen after March 30, 2025, or after Eid al-Fitr.
Two economic ministers, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, were reported to be leaving the Red and White Cabinet.
Sri Mulyani's potential resignation was indicated by the reduction in her authority. According to Kevin, Sri Mulyani will be replaced by Prabowo's nephew, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Djiwandono. Meanwhile, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita is said to be replacing Airlangga's position.
So, what is the response of these two economic ministers to the rumor of a cabinet reshuffle?
Sri Mulyani: Focus on Carrying Out the President's Trust
Minister Sri Mulyani emphasized that she will stay in the Red and White Cabinet. The former Managing Director of the World Bank stated that she has heard many rumors about her position at the Ministry of Finance. "I assert that I am here, standing firm and not resigning, managing the State Budget," she said at a press conference at the central office of the Directorate General of Taxation in Jakarta on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
The State Treasurer ensured that she will continue to manage the state's finances to achieve the development goals of President Prabowo Subianto's government. "Up until now, I remain focused on carrying out the state's tasks at the president's trust, to manage the State Budget and state finances professionally. This is to affirm against various rumors about the position of the Finance Minister," she said.
Airlangga: No Plans to Resign
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister Airlangga also denied the issue of his resignation from Prabowo's cabinet. The former leader of the Golkar Party affirmed that he and Sri Mulyani will continue to serve as ministers.
Airlangga stated that he will continue to focus on work as usual.
"There are no plans to resign. Ms. Sri Mulyani and I communicated this afternoon, and she is also working full time. So, that's a hoax," said Airlangga at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
