TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Wonosobo Class II Non-TPI Immigration Office has detained three Chinese nationals on suspicion of immigration violations. The individuals, who claimed to have been in Magelang over the past week on a C20 visa for a temporary visit, are now under investigation.

Is Edy Ekoputranto, Head of the Immigration Division for the Central Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, stated that the men are still under investigation. "We will continue to investigate this case further," he said in an official statement on December 23.

Since December 18, the Wonosobo Immigration Office has monitored foreign nationals in the Magelang Regency area. Officers found three men—identified as SZ, ZC, and YY—who claimed to be in the country for work, but the company they named denied any interaction with them.

The men entered Indonesia on a C20 visa sponsored by Angria Karisma Saranasejatra, who is listed as the sponsor at PT. Longteng Iron and Steel Products in Tangerang, Banten.

The CEO of PT. Longteng Iron and Steel Products gave a statement on the matter on Monday, December 23, saying that the three men were neither employees, workers, nor guests of the company.

If found guilty of violating immigration laws, Edy said, the men could face charges under Article 123(a) of Law No. 6 of 2011, with penalties of up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to Rp500 million.

Authorities have confiscated the men's passports for further investigation. The Immigration Office has vowed to take strong action if it is proven they used fake documents to work in Indonesia.
