TEMPO.CO, JakartaOriginally introduced after the development of the first building in the United States, the term skyscraper refers to a very tall multi-story property. While skyscrapers were defined as high-rise buildings of 10 to 20 stories in the past, today there are several countries with the most skyscrapers that exceed more than 40 or 50 stories.

For architecture admirers, delving deep into the modern traces of each skyscraper gives inspiration. If you are one of them, stay on the article to discover the global skyscraper leaders.

5 Countries with the Most Skyscrapers

World Population Review and Visual Capitalist mentioned China and the United Arab Emirates as the countries with the most skyscrapers, with other ranked nations including:

1. China

First on the list of countries with the most skyscrapers, China has more than 3,000 high-rise buildings over 150 meters tall. This jaw-dropping number is calculated to be three times bigger than the next contender.

In addition to the 150-meter-tall properties, China is also home to 120 buildings over 300 meters tall, almost as many as India's 150-meter-tall structures. The grandeur of China does not stop there, as the nation currently has 1,035 buildings over 200 meters tall.

For comparison, China’s tallest building, the Shanghai Tower, is 632 meters high, while the Eiffel Tower is roughly 300 meters high.

2. United States

As the nation that coined the term skyscraper, the United States is home to 878 properties that exceed 150 meters and another 235 buildings exceeding 200 meters. Among the high-rise buildings, One World Trade Center, which is 541 meters tall, is recognized as the tallest property in the United States. Interestingly, it is believed by the Visual Capitalist that more than a third of the 899 skyscrapers are located in New York City.

3. United Arab Emirates

Home to the world's current tallest building, the 828-meter Burj Khalifa, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is universally known as one of the countries with the most skyscrapers. This opulent gateway to the Middle East currently boasts 325 buildings that exceed 150 meters and 145 high-rise buildings of 200 meters or more. Other than Burj Khalifa, the 425-meter Marina 101 deserves its own spotlight for showcasing the country’s architectural advancements.

4. South Korea

One of the most technologically advanced countries, South Korea is credited with 276 skyscrapers over 150 meters tall, 79 buildings over 200 meters tall, as well as seven high-rise properties over 300 meters. Even more impressive is the fact that the country is also home to the world’s sixth tallest building, Lotte World Tower, at 555 meters.

5. Japan

Rounding out the list of the countries with the most skyscrapers, Japan has around 273 high-rise buildings over 150 meters and another 47 buildings at 200 meters or more. Out of the other 282 skyscrapers, the Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower is the only super-tall building over 300 meters in Japan, currently standing at 325.5 meters.

These countries with the most skyscrapers symbolize both technological innovation and the relentless pursuit of modernity. For the architecture geeks, here are the world's tallest buildings.
