TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The total lunar eclipse, also known as the Blood Moon, is reported to occur on March 13-14, 2025, marking the first total eclipse since 2022. As reported by Space.com, this phenomenon will make the moon appear red for approximately 65 minutes.
This eclipse can be observed in various regions around the world, especially in North and South America, which will provide the best view.
Parts of Europe can witness the eclipse as the moon sets, while East Asia can observe it as the moon rises. The eclipse's peak will be in the Pacific Ocean.
The entire eclipse will last for more than six hours, starting with the penumbral phase at 11:57 PM EDT until 1:09 AM EDT. The partial phase will occur from 01:09 AM to 02:26 AM EDT, followed by the totality phase from 02:26 AM to 03:31 AM EDT.
After that, the partial phase will occur again until 04:47 AM EDT, and the eclipse will end with the penumbral phase until 06:00 AM EDT.
In North America, all phases of the eclipse can be observed throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Most of South America, including Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, can also witness the eclipse in its entirety.
In Europe, western regions such as Spain, France, and England can see the eclipse before the moon sets. West Africa, including Morocco and Senegal, also has the opportunity to witness totality. Meanwhile, in Oceania, New Zealand can see the final phase of the eclipse as the moon rises.
This lunar eclipse can be observed with the naked eye without any special equipment, unlike solar eclipses, which require special protection for safe viewing.
Observers in locations with clear skies will have the best experience in witnessing this phenomenon.
In addition to being a stunning astronomical phenomenon, the total lunar eclipse also holds cultural and historical significance in various societies. Some ancient cultures regarded it as a sign of significant change, while in the modern world, this event often becomes a moment for astronomers and sky enthusiasts to gather and observe the universe more closely.

If you want to witness the total lunar eclipse in Indonesia, the event will occur in the morning to afternoon, and thus cannot be directly observed because the moon will no longer be visible in the sky.
