TEMPO.COJakarta - Pixar is breathing new life into one of its most beloved franchises, as Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the “Toy Story” gang return in the first teaser for Toy Story 5, slated for release on June 19, 2026.

After years of anticipation, Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the beloved gang are reuniting for a brand-new adventure that introduces a modern, potentially disruptive twist to their world of play.

The preview introduces audiences to Lilypad, a sleek, frog-shaped smart tablet whose cutting-edge intelligence threatens the toys’ familiar world of imagination and adventure. Voiced by Greta Lee, the new character symbolizes the clash between classic playtime and the digital age.

Tech is the New Villain in Toy Story 5

The trailer opens on a moment of quiet anticipation as Bonnie, the toys’ devoted caretaker, receives a mysterious package in the mail. One by one, the familiar faces of Woody, Buzz, and the gang gather to watch, their expressions clouded with dread.

Mrs. Potato Head, in a gesture both comical and tragic, removes her own eyes rather than face what’s coming. When the box finally opens, it reveals Lilypad, a glossy, frog-shaped tablet that radiates unsettling intelligence. As the screen fades to black, bold title cards declare: “The age of toys is over.”

For Woody and Buzz, who have weathered every threat from yard sales to daycare disasters, this new chapter feels different and even existential. After three decades of friendship, adventure, and resilience, the world they once understood has evolved beyond them.

Childhood play is no longer defined by imagination and touch but by interactivity, algorithms, and screens.

Enter Lilypad: a Wi-Fi-powered, self-updating companion that challenges not only their place in the toy chest but the very notion of what it means to play. For these old souls of the nursery, the digital age may prove to be their greatest villain yet.

Cast and Crew of Toy Story 5

For many years, few franchises embody enduring appeal quite like Toy Story, Pixar’s crown jewel and its most profitable property. With Toy Story 5 on the horizon, the studio appears ready to reignite the emotional spark that has kept generations of viewers invested in the lives of a few plastic playthings.

The upcoming installment brings a refreshed ensemble of voices to the familiar lineup. Greta Lee joins the cast as Lilypad, the new tech toy whose arrival sets the story in motion, alongside returning legends Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie, and Tony Hale as Forky.

In a delightfully unexpected twist, Conan O’Brien lends his signature wit to “Smarty Pants,” a toilet-training tech toy that promises to inject a dose of irreverent humor into the mix.

Expectations Surrounding Toy Story 5

At the helm of Toy Story 5 is none other than Academy Award-winner Andrew Stanton, the visionary storyteller behind WALL•E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory. Stanton, whose fingerprints are on some of Pixar’s most emotionally resonant films, returns to the director’s chair with co-director Kenna Harris, best known for her work on Ciao Alberto. The production is overseen by Lindsey Collins, whose impressive portfolio, including Turning Red, WALL•E, and Finding Dory, ensures that Pixar’s next chapter is in masterful hands.

The saga’s legacy began in 1995, when the first Toy Story revolutionized cinema as the world’s first fully computer-animated feature film. Distributed by Disney, the film and its 1999 sequel redefined animation before Disney’s full acquisition of Pixar in 2006.

The saga’s revival with Toy Story 3 in 2010 and Toy Story 4 in 2019 further cemented its cultural dominance, each franchise earning more than $1 billion globally and winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. With Toy Story 5, Pixar isn’t merely revisiting familiar faces, but it’s also reasserting its legacy as the studio that turned playtime into timeless cinema.
