TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Welfizon Yuza, President Director of PT Transportasi Jakarta, stated that the average daily Transjakarta bus passenger count will reach 1.4 million by 2025. More than 80 percent of these passengers will be young people from the Gen Z and Millennial segments.

"If we look at Transjakarta users, 66 percent are women, approximately two-thirds of whom are women," Welfizon said during a discussion at the Skyline Building in Jakarta on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Currently, Transjakarta serves 233 routes connecting all corners of the city and its surrounding areas. More than 5,000 buses are in operation, including 470 electric buses.

Welfizon stated that Transjakarta currently offers Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) services on 14 main corridors. This is supported by feeder buses, Royaltrans, special buses, tourist buses, Transjabodetabek buses, and Mikrotrans buses.

The number of passengers plummeted during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, reaching around 83,000 people per day. The previous peak was 1 million passengers per day in 2019. "The figure used as a psychological benchmark is 1 million passengers per day," he said.

Slowly, Transjakarta passengers continued to increase to 219,000 people per day in 2022. After that, it rose dramatically to 1.3 million people per day in 2024 and 1.4 million people per day in 2025.

Welfizon said Transjakarta has currently revitalized 46 of its 271 BRT bus stops. The capacity of these stops has been expanded, and other infrastructure will be improved in the future.

"Currently, we must recognize that digitalization in all aspects is crucial," he said.

As is known, the public transportation company owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government has been serving passengers for 22 years. The bus first operated on corridor 1 with the Blok M-Kota route on January 15, 2004 under the leadership of the then governor, Sutiyoso.
