TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Al-Dhaheri, has expressed enthusiasm for the burgeoning strategic partnership between the UAE and Indonesia in various fields, including politics, economy, and trade. This positive trajectory has been bolstered by the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which has contributed to a surge in bilateral trade.
“The volume of non-oil bilateral trade has exceeded $27 billion during the period of 2014-2023. Furthermore, bilateral trade has seen robust growth up to 12 percent in recent years," said Ambassador Abdulla during the 53rd UAE National Day celebration held at the Raffles Hotel Jakarta on Tuesday night, December 3, 2024.
He extended his appreciation for the state visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Abu Dhabi, UAE, on November 23. This visit, which saw President Prabowo meet with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, resulted in the signing of seven cooperation agreements, particularly within the economic and socio-cultural domains. Ambassador Abdulla was one of the officials accompanying Prabowo during the latter’s visit to UAE.
"We believe that this visit will serve as a crucial stepping stone in elevating UAE-Indonesia bilateral cooperation to unprecedented heights," he emphasized.
Furthermore, Ambassador Abdulla hoped that the government of President Prabowo will continue to foster and strengthen bilateral relations with the UAE after the conclusion of Joko Widodo or Jokowi’s presidency. The UAE, he affirmed, firmly believes in the importance of international cooperation.
"The UAE is always committed to strengthening bilateral relations with friendly countries," he said.
Vice President of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who was present at the event, conveyed his deep appreciation to the UAE government. He highlighted the close and cordial nature of the bilateral relationship.
"The bond between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates transcends mere political alliances; it is characterized by a warm spirit of brotherhood," Gibran in his address.
The celebration was attended by several high-ranking Indonesian officials, including Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Law Yusril Ihza Mahendra; Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono; Chair of the National Economic Council Luhut Binsar Panjaitan; and Foreign Minister Sugiono; Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian. The event was enlivened with captivating cultural performances from UAE and a delightful array of Middle Eastern cuisine.
