TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ukrainian Ambassador to Indonesia, Vasyl Hamianin, has appealed to President Prabowo Subianto, who was inaugurated on October 20, 2024, to support Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.
“I sincerely hope that Indonesia will express its support for democracy, freedom, and the full sovereignty of nations, including Ukraine, which is currently under Russian aggression,” Hamianin said during a commemoration event marking 1,000 days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
Hamianin described Russia as the last imperialist country in the world and called on Indonesia, as a democratic nation, to support Ukraine against Russian "colonialism".
“The Ukrainian people seek support not for Ukraine itself, but for the principles of freedom and sovereignty,” he emphasized.
The Ambassador urged the international community to recognize Russia as an aggressor state responsible for the killing of civilians, including children, and the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia. He also highlighted the International Criminal Court's issuance of arrest warrants for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We expect solidarity and support for humanity, democracy, and justice,” Hamianin added.
As reported by Reuters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has acknowledged the challenging situation in eastern Ukraine, where Russian forces are making advances. He cited delays in equipping Ukrainian brigades, partly due to U.S. congressional delays in approving aid packages. However, he expressed optimism that newly equipped brigades would soon enter the battlefield.
Zelenskyy also emphasized Ukraine's efforts to increase domestic weapons production to reduce reliance on foreign aid. He revealed that Ukraine is currently producing four different types of missiles, which are undergoing testing.
