TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Universal Studios will open an amusement park in Bedford, England. This will be the first and largest amusement park in Europe. Other Universal amusement parks are located in Orlando, Florida; Los Angeles and California, in the United States; Osaka, Japan; Sentosa, Singapore; and Beijing, China.
Universal Studios in England will be built on a three-square-kilometer site, in the location of an old industrial site called the Kempston Hardwick brick factory. It is approximately 90 miles from the center of London, or about an hour's train ride. The 50 billion euros project is scheduled to open in 2031.
As quoted from Travel + Leisure, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said they had signed a multi-billion pound investment deal for the construction of Europe's biggest theme parks, putting the region on the world stage.
The new amusement park is estimated to create around 28,000 jobs, including 20,000 in construction and 8,000 in the creative and hospitality sectors. 80 percent of the employees are from the local area. Once operational, Universal Studios UK hopes to attract up to 8.5 million visitors annually.
The park will be nearly four times the size of Disneyland Paris. It will be equipped with a 500-room capacity hotel and a multifunctional complex with retail options, dining venues, and entertainment. However, there is no confirmation yet on the rides or areas inside.
In a statement, using advanced and sophisticated technology, several themed areas showcase Universal's signature stories, thrilling rides, innovative attractions, and engaging entertainment. While the other five amusement parks have rides inspired by many major NBCUniversal productions, such as Jurassic Park, Jaws, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Harry Potter, The Simpsons, and Nintendo.
British Culture Minister Lisa Nandy said England has many great, world-famous works. She said the things England is proud of are James Bond, Paddington Bear, and Harry Potter.
Although the name and concept of the amusement park have not been released, an artistic rendering depicts an entrance area that closely resembles its original park, Universal Studios Hollywood. The circular welcome area is centered around a globe-shaped fountain. There will also be a large lake, with several roller coasters and something that looks like an amphitheater for performances.
To create the amusement park, Universal is committed to providing easy access for visitors. This includes upgrading local train stations and building a new station on the railway line. In addition, a new entrance road will be added to the toll road passing through Bedford towards the park.
