TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Red Sparks women's volleyball team continued to show their dominance by winning their 13th consecutive victory in the South Korean Volleyball League (V-League). They won 3-1 (10-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-17) in a home match against AI Pepper at Chungmu Gymnasium, Daejeon, Sunday, January 26, 2025.

This match was a special moment for Megawati Hangestri because it was used as a 'Mega Day' to honor this player from Indonesia. As many as 200 supporters from Indonesia were present at the stadium to give their full support to Mega. This event was not only an award for her contribution to the team, but also a source of additional motivation for Mega to perform brilliantly.

Megawati responded to the support with a slick performance. Despite tight defensive pressure from the opponent, she scored 21 points and showed off her solid blocking skills, stunning the thousands of spectators who filled the stadium. Vanja Bukiric also made a big contribution by scoring 23 points, the highest on the team.

Pyo Seung-ju also contributed 9 points, completing the solid performance of the Red Sparks. The combination of Mega's diagonal attacks, Bukiric's attack power, and Pyo Seung-ju's pressure overwhelmed the AI Pepper defense.

The Course of the Match

Despite receiving full support from the home fans, the Red Sparks had difficulty in the first set. They lost badly with a score of 10-25 due to making too many mistakes.

Coach Ko Hee-jin chose to rest the main players in the first set in order to maintain stamina for the next set. The strategy worked. Cheong Kwan Jang rose in the second set by rearranging the formation and playing more aggressively. They won the second set 25-21, followed by the third set 25-16, and the fourth set 25-17.

With this victory, Cheong Kwan Jang collected 46 points from 17 wins and 6 losses. They are increasingly solid in third place in the standings, which is the semifinal playoff zone and only one point behind second place, Hillstate (47 points). Above these two teams are the Pink Spiders (53 points).

The Red Sparks have now far surpassed their previous club record of 8 consecutive wins in a season. If they win one more game, they will match Heungkuk Life Insurance and GS Caltex's record of 14 consecutive wins. Two more wins will see them match Hyundai Engineering & Construction's record of 15 consecutive wins.

It won't be easy to win. The Red Sparks will face a tough test in their next two games against league leaders the Pink Spides on January 30 and February 2.
