TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka stated that artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly integral part of daily life. He conveyed this message while visiting the AI Ready ASEAN Workshop titled "Empowering Students for the Future: AI Literacy for a Digital ASEAN" in Bandung, West Java.
"The use of AI is very important for daily life, especially to support teaching and learning activities," said Gibran in his statement on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
He believes that the next generation should be introduced to current technology from an early age. He said the goal is to ensure that Indonesia's youth do not fall behind in global technological developments.
Gibran mentioned frequently visiting several schools to introduce AI literacy to students and learners. This includes introducing robotics technology and fostering student interest in digital technology.
Although the use of AI is considered important, Gibran reminded that there are rules and ethics in its implementation. "So, that's what needs to be considered," he said.
Around 500 students attended the AI literacy program event in West Java. Gibran appreciated the support of the ASEAN Foundation and Google.org in ensuring the event's sustainability.
During his visit to West Java, Gibran also received a question from a student named Mirza Ali Musyafa. The student asked the vice president about his views on the environmental impact of AI development.
Gibran stated that maintaining a balance between technological advancements and environmental preservation is crucial. However, he said progress often results in both positive and negative impacts on the environment.
"The challenge is to find a middle ground. We want technology to advance, we want AI to be used widely, but environmental sustainability must also be considered," he said.
