TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected the Rp 249 billion Cibubur Youth Elite Sports Center (CYESC) project in East Jakarta on Tuesday, October 22, his second day in office as Indonesia's vice president.
The project includes the construction and renovation of various sports facilities, aiming to establish a training center for several sports branches such as archery, rock climbing, swimming, and gymnastics, to enhance the performance of Indonesian athletes.
“This elite training center at Cibubur is expected to be completed by the end of December,” Gibran said in Cibubur, East Jakarta, on Tuesday.
He emphasized the project's strategic importance for improving athletic achievements, noting the comprehensive facilities it offers. With such excellent facilities, he believes there is no reason to delay the development of athletic performance. “We just need to focus on boosting their achievements to meet international standards.”
Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo announced that the Cibubur Youth Elite Sports Center will be equipped with schools and hospitals for athletes.
“There will be a school later, and in the next phase, we will build a sports hospital adjacent to the center, serving as a hub for sports science,” Dito said while accompanying Gibran.
He explained that the construction of these facilities is a strategic step for the government in preparing athletes for the 2028 Olympics.
All priority sports branches targeted for the upcoming Olympics already have world-class training facilities, including weightlifting, gymnastics, rock climbing, swimming, badminton, football, and martial arts.
“We hope to focus entirely here on this center, as it offers not only excellent facilities but also dormitories. With the modernization of the Cibubur complex, we will maximize its functionality,” the minister added.
The sports center is expected to be completed by December 2024, allowing athletes to begin using it in 2025.
Dito Ariotedjo assigned his deputy Taufik Hidayat, a badminton legend, to oversee the preparation of priority sports branches for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, United States.
“With Mas Deputy Minister's (Taufik Hidayat) involvement, we can achieve more. His experience as an Olympian can motivate and directly monitor the preparations of sports branches that will compete specifically in the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics,” Dito said.
He mentioned that the 100-day target of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran's government in the sports sector is to prepare for the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games 2025.
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports will ensure that Indonesian athletes are well-prepared for these multi-sport events, as they mark the beginning of the Prabowo-Gibran administration's era,” Dito remarked.
