TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecasted an increase in rainfall across West Java in the coming week, with precipitation expected to peak between November 11 and 20, 2025.

According to the BMKG West Java Climatology Station, around 65 percent of the province will experience high rainfall, with intensities ranging from 150 to 300 millimeters per decade.

“Rainfall is predicted to intensify across most regions of West Java during the second half of November,” the agency said in an official statement on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Areas Expected to Experience Heavy Rain

Regions projected to be affected include parts of Bogor Regency, Depok, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Purwakarta, and southern Subang. In the Greater Bandung area, heavy rains are also expected in Bandung City, Bandung Regency, Cimahi, southern Bandung Barat, Sumedang, Majalengka, southern Kuningan, and parts of Garut, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Banjar, and Pangandaran.

Meanwhile, very high rainfall, exceeding 300 millimeters per decade. is predicted in about five percent of the province, particularly in parts of Bogor City and Regency, Sukabumi, Cianjur, southern Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Pangandaran.

BMKG also noted that 27 percent of West Java will see moderate rainfall between 50 and 150 millimeters per decade, covering parts of Bekasi, Karawang, Subang, Indramayu, Cirebon, Kuningan, and Majalengka. The remaining three percent, mainly in the northern corridor from Bekasi to Cirebon, is expected to experience low rainfall.

Rainfall Intensity Doubles from Early November

BMKG’s data shows that rainfall intensity in West Java has roughly doubled since early November. Between November 1 and 10, only 30 percent of the province experienced high rainfall, while 47 percent recorded moderate levels.

The second decade of November is now expected to bring significantly wetter conditions.

Rossian Nursiddiq, a weather forecaster at BMKG’s West Java Climatology Station, explained that the ongoing rain is influenced by warmer sea surface temperatures and active Kelvin waves over the region.

“Tropical Cyclone 96S, located in the southwest Indian Ocean near Bengkulu, may also contribute to wind convergence and circulation patterns over West Java,” Rossian said in a written statement on Sunday, November 9.

He added that the developing cyclone could increase wind speeds in certain areas. The current atmospheric instability, which BMKG classified as ranging from mild to strong, also indicates the potential formation of local convective clouds, which can trigger short but intense downpours.
