TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sumardji, Head of the National Team Body at the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), has clarified why the federation is keeping the identities of the five potential Indonesian national team coaches confidential, despite the list currently sitting on Chair Erick Thohir's desk. He emphasized that PSSI has no intention of disclosing these names to the public.
"Why haven't the five names been revealed yet? I will explain: we simply will not disclose them," Sumardji stated during a press conference at the GBK Arena, Senayan, on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
According to Sumardji, the decision to maintain confidentiality is rooted in respect for the candidates' professional privacy. "Every head coach has their own privacy rights. Furthermore, many are still under contract with clubs or managing other national teams, so it's inappropriate for us to disclose their identities," he explained.
Sumardji confirmed that PSSI will commence the interview process with the five candidates next week. The federation has assigned several Executive Committee (Exco) members, along with himself and PSSI Technical Director Alexander Zwiers, to conduct the meetings directly.
"From these five names, we will surely choose the very best," he assured, though he did not specify the exact criteria the federation will use.
When asked if the selection depends on contract value or alignment with the Indonesian national team's playing style, Sumardji remained tight-lipped. "It is already in our records. The list of assessment points is already set," he said.
He reiterated only that PSSI is striving to secure the best possible tactician for the Garuda squad. "As for the detailed criteria, just wait for it."
PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi added that the selection process is ongoing and urged the public to refrain from speculation until a final decision is made. "Give us the opportunity to work on this. We are continuing to refrain from disclosing those names," Yunus said.
