TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A resident of South Jakarta, with the initials IR, 39 years old, died from being crushed and experiencing shortness of breath during the New Year's Eve celebration near a shopping center in Margonda, Depok, on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
The incident was uploaded by the Instagram account @depokfeed. It wrote a resident fainted on the sidewalk in front of the mall.
The police, who were guarding the area, immediately administered first aid and took the victim to the hospital by ambulance. Unfortunately, her life could not be saved.
It is believed that the South Jakarta resident died from exhaustion and shortness of breath due to the dense crowd watching the fireworks.
Depok Metro Police Deputy Chief of Samapta, Assistant Comsr. AKP Winam Agus revealed that the woman was already in a supine position or lying on the sidewalk in front of Margo City.
"The incident occurred on the sidewalk of Jalan Margonda in front of Pizza Hut at around 00:05 on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, when the fireworks party was taking place," said Winam when confirmed on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
After that, Winam continued, the police approached the resident who had apparently fainted in the crowd and administered first aid, after which they called an ambulance to take her to the Mitra Keluarga Hospital for further treatment.
"After arriving at the hospital and receiving further treatment from the doctor, the victim was pronounced dead," said the former head of Depok Metro Police's Jaguar Team.
