TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The world's highest bridge, Grand Canyon Huajiang in China, was opened to the public on September 28. The bridge also features Interstellar Coffee, a glass coffee shop located 800 meters above the ground.
The Guizhou Daily Tianyan News reported that the coffee shop, located on one of the towers, has two floors. Its glass walls allow visitors to enjoy a 360-degree view. The coffee shop will offer Captain George Coffee, and in the following months, options from America, Italy, or homemade coffee will be added. Visitors can enjoy their favorite coffee while taking in the views of the clouds, rivers, and forests, all while feeling the gentle breeze. In the evening, they can also enjoy the view of the moon and stars in the sky.
To reach the coffee shop, visitors can take a glass elevator in less than a minute. There is also a 580-meter-high glass walkway that visitors can explore. More adventurous tourists can also bungee jump from the giant bridge.
The Highest Bridge in the World
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is located in southern China, spanning the Beipan River. This is the highest bridge in the world. It reduces transit time in Guizhou Province from two hours to two minutes, according to NBC News.
With a length of 2,890 meters, this bridge also breaks the record as the longest bridge in the world in a mountainous area. The height of the bridge reaches 625 meters.
As part of the government's fight against poverty, China has constructed many bridges. Guizhou province now has 32,000 completed or under-construction bridges, far more than in the 1980s, when the number was less than 3,000. Guizhou is also home to the Duge Bridge, the second-highest bridge in the world since its opening in 2016.
After three years and eight months of construction, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge opened, connecting two major tourist areas in the region. The bridge, referred to as China's latest "infrastructure marvel," is designed to boost tourism and economic growth in one of the country's most underdeveloped regions.
