TEMPO.CO, JakartaAirAsia Airlines announced the cancellation, delay, and rescheduling of flights for AirAsia Malaysia, AirAsia X, AirAsia Thailand, and AirAsia Indonesia from and to Bali, Lombok, and Labuan Bajo on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. The flight cancellations are a result of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Nusa Tenggara.

"The spread of volcanic ash can disrupt airspace and flight safety in the surrounding area. As a result, AirAsia has canceled, delayed, and rescheduled several flights," AirAsia said in a statement on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

AirAsia has also informed all affected passengers via email and SMS. Passengers traveling to and from the affected destinations are advised to regularly check their registered email and phone number for cancellation information and other service options.

Passengers are also advised to check the latest flight status at airasia.com/flightstatus and the AirAsia MOVE app (formerly AirAsia Superapp). AirAsia mentioned that these flight cancellations are causing inconvenience to all passengers, but the decision was necessary to ensure the safety of passengers and crew alike.

AirAsia has also announced that flights to and from Labuan Bajo have been affected since Monday, November 4, 2024, due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki. This situation has forced AirAsia to postpone and cancel flights for a week due to unsafe conditions.

The decision is based on Notam No: A3548/24 NOTAMR A3547/24 and A3554/24 NOTAMR A3548/24, which guided AirAsia management to implement several flight delays and cancellations.

"AirAsia understands that this situation is inconvenient for all passengers. However, this decision was made to ensure the safety and security of passengers and crew. We will provide regular updates on the latest flight schedules," said Corporate Communications Manager Indonesia AirAsia Ageng Wibowo Leksono in a statement on Sunday, November 10, 2024.

Some of the affected AirAsia flights include QZ 860 (Jakarta-Labuan Bajo), QZ 861 (Labuan Bajo-Jakarta), QZ 646 & QZ 642 (Bali-Labuan Bajo), QZ 647 & QZ 643 (Labuan Bajo-Bali), AK 336 (Kuala Lumpur-Labuan Bajo), and AK 337 (Labuan Bajo-Kuala Lumpur).

Ageng said Indonesia AirAsia’s management continues to collaborate with relevant authorities to evaluate situations. "To prepare several scenarios to minimize the impact on flights if this situation persists in the coming days," Ageng said.
