TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Taman Impian Jaya Ancol estimates that the increase in waste production from New Year's Eve celebrations will be approximately 250 cubic meters from all of its tourist areas on the shores of Jakarta Bay. On weekdays, Ancol's waste production is 100 cubic meters, while on weekends it is 150 cubic meters.
"There is a potential for additional waste on New Year's Eve," Taman Impian Jaya Ancol Public Relations Manager Ariyadi Eko Nugroho told Tempo on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
Ancol deployed 190 cleaning staff divided into three shifts to deal with the increase in the amount of waste equivalent to 90 tons, Ariyadi revealed. In addition, they used beach cleaning units for the beach and the promenade areas.
"We use five sweepers and eight blowers to ensure the cleanliness of the area," he added.
The management also added several bins in different areas so visitors can easily dispose of their waste in the bin. The same goes for the transportation fleet. Based on Tempo's monitoring at Pantai Festival Ancol on Saturday afternoon, bins for easily decomposable categories and plastic waste have been placed in several locations.
Waste separation has also been implemented in all existing tourist facilities, Ariyadi said. Organic waste is also processed for use as compost and planting material. "We only take residual waste to the TPA," he said.
