Attorney General's Office Keeps Chromebook Jurist Tan Corruption Suspect's Position Secret

1 month ago 63

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) continues to keep the location of the suspect in the Chromebook laptop procurement case, Jurist Tan, outside the country under wraps. Head of the AGO's Legal Information Center, Anang Supriatna, stated that investigators are still pursuing the former special staff (stafsus) of Nadiem Makarim at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

"I don't know for sure (his location), and if I did, I would keep it secret for now," said Anang at the AGO office in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

Sources from Tempo stated that Jurist Tan has been detected in Australia. The AGO has prevented him from leaving the country since June 4, 2025. However, he left Indonesia before this prevention was applied.

The first summons for Jurist as a suspect was sent on July 15, 2025, with the examination scheduled for July 18, 2025. However, the AGO stated that Jurist Tan did not show up without giving any notice. "No news, no confirmation at all," said Head of AGO's Legal Information Center, Anang Supriatna when contacted by Tempo on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

Currently, the AGO is considering the appropriate time for the second summons of Jurist as a suspect. For now, there is no definite date for the next summons.

He said that if the next summons is ignored again, the AGO does not rule out the possibility of taking coercive measures. The issuance of a red notice is also being processed as an option. "After the last summons, we will then issue a warrant to search for the person (DPO) which will lead to a red notice," said Anang.

Jurist Tan was declared a suspect along with three others, namely former consultant of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research, and Technology, Ibrahim Arief; Director of Elementary Schools of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research, and Technology for the 2020-2021 period, Sri Wahyuningsih; and Director of Junior High Schools of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research, and Technology, Mulyatsyah. All four are suspected of being involved in the manipulation of the education digitalization procurement in favor of a particular product, namely the Chromebook laptop made by Google.

Jurist Tan's legal representative had requested an online examination or, if possible, for the investigators to visit their client. However, until today, the investigators have not accommodated this request.

Although Jurist Tan's presence in Australia has not been officially confirmed by the authorities, questions arise about the possibility of the Indonesian government repatriating the suspect through the extradition mechanism.

When asked about the extradition option, Anang stated that they cannot provide any certainty yet. "Not yet. The main thing is to continue the summons process," he said.
