TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Handara Gate in the Buleleng Regency, North Bali, has become a newly favored tourist destination, particularly among foreign visitors. This distinctive Balinese-style structure serves as the main entrance to the Handara Golf and Resort Bali, one of the island's oldest resorts.
Putu Ngurah Putra Sudarmaya, a staff member of the Buleleng Tourism Office Marketing Division, noted that most visitors to the gate originate from Asian countries. During the peak holiday season, the majority of visitors are from China. "Meanwhile, during the low season like now, the visitors are mostly from India," he told Antara in Bali on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
According to Putu, many tourists meticulously prepare special clothing specifically for their photoshoots at the Handara Gate. Visitors typically queue for five to 10 minutes to take a photograph. While some tourists bring their own professional photographers, others utilize local photographers for a fee of Rp20,000 per session.
Fees and Popularity of Handara Gate
The entrance fee to the Handara Gate is set at Rp30,000 for local tourists and Rp50,000 for foreign tourists. While there is no time limit for visiting the site, guests seeking the best photo backdrop are advised to arrive either in the morning or just before sunset.
Putu mentioned that the site gained widespread popularity after a photo and video of a Russian tourist at the gate went viral on social media platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic. "Especially the habit of Asian people, if there is a good photo and it goes viral, everyone immediately wants to go there," Putu explained.
The Handara Gate is situated on Jalan Raya Singaraja-Denpasar, Sukasada District, Buleleng Regency. The gate itself stands in a lush environment. The distinctive traditional Balinese design, framed by the surrounding natural scenery, serves as the main draw for tourists seeking to capture its beauty.
Established in the 1970s, the Handara Golf & Resort has become one of Asia's most popular golf destinations, renowned for both its natural beauty and its challenging course.
Buleleng, located in northern Bali, offers visitors a more tranquil atmosphere compared to the more saturated areas of South Bali.
