TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Monkey Forest tourist destination in Bali has increased tourist safety procedures during this rainy season. This step was taken after two foreign tourists died after being hit by a falling tree in the Ubud Monkey Forest some time ago.

Three large trees in the Ubud Monkey Forest fell after heavy rain and strong winds. As a result, they hit foreign tourists who were passing by. In addition to the two fatalities, three other foreign tourists were injured. After the incident, the Ubud Monkey Forest was temporarily closed.

In response to the incident, other monkey forest tourist destinations in Bali, Monkey Forest Alas Kedaton and Monkey Forest Sangeh took preventive measures. The Field Coordinator of Monkey Forest Alas Kedaton Tourism Object, Ketut Armandi explained about the increased security procedures for tourists during the rainy season.

"We take preventive measures by giving warnings to tour guides not to take tourists around dangerous areas. We prune and maintain trees that are potentially dangerous," he said as reported by The Bali Sun.

Monkey Forest Alas Kedaton is centered around the stunning Pura Dalem Kahyangan Kedaton, while the nutmeg forest enlivens the senses in a new way. There are more than 2,000 long-tailed grey macaques, covering more than 12 hectares of protected landscape. In addition to wild monkeys, ancient trees, and often host cultural dance performances in the temple grounds.

Although not too crowded, because it is located only 16 kilometers from Tanah Lot Temple, a visit to Monkey Forest Alas Kedaton is often included in a day trip plan to explore the best attractions and landmarks that Tabanan Regency has to offer, including the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces.

In addition, Monkey Forest Alas Kedaton is also home to a population of giant fruit bats, also known as flying foxes. This tourist area is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00 local time. However, it can be closed if the management considers the weather conditions unsafe for the public.

The management of Monkey Forest Sangeth, Badung, also does the same thing. The general manager of the tourist attraction, Ida Bagus Gede Pujawan said that he and his team will take a cautious approach especially during storms and heavy rains. "We will close the attraction if there is heavy rain and wind. It will be opened and closed temporarily if there is heavy rain," he said.
