TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Bank Indonesia (BI) has launched a new enhancement to the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment system, known as QRIS Tap In & Out, on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The QRIS Tap In & Out feature is specifically introduced for five major public transportation modes serving Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek/Greater Jakarta).

QRIS Tap is the latest development of the QRIS payment system, designed to facilitate transactions by allowing users to tap their mobile phone against a designated payment machine. This innovative functionality utilizes Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

"The first launch event is the launch of QRIS Tap In & Out in five modes of transportation in Jabodetabek," stated Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo during the Digital Economy and Financial Festival of Indonesia & Indonesia Fintech Summit & Expo 2025 on Thursday, October 30, 2025, as quoted from the Bank Indonesia YouTube channel.

The five transportation modes integrated with the new system are the MRT, KCI/KRL (Commuter Line), TransJakarta, LRT Jakarta, and LRT Jabodebek.

In his speech, Governor Perry Warjiyo noted that since its initial launch on August 17, 2025, QRIS has experienced rapid development. The QR-based payment system developed by BI has now reached nearly 60 million users, 40 million of whom are Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Furthermore, the volume of Indonesia's digital economy and finance currently stands at 37 billion transactions per year. Perry highlighted the impressive figures, stating, "That's almost more than Rp450 trillion for e-commerce."

Meanwhile, digital transactions, specifically through mobile banking and the use of QRIS, have reached 13 thousand transactions, with a total value of nearly Rp60 trillion.

Supporting this trend, BI data from the third quarter of 2025 shows that the transaction volume of mobile and internet applications grew by 13.11 percent and 17.80 percent, respectively. Crucially, QRIS transactions recorded a monumental 147.65 percent growth.
